| Stair is an area rather than a village, there is the Inn and a church nearby. Stair nestles at the bottom of a glen beside the river Ayr.
It is only 7 miles East from the town of Ayr and 4 miles west of Mauchline. The Inn was built around 1700 and was a place for farmers to meet and sell their cattle, this was before the county market was built in Ayr. It is a three storey building with the kitchen and cellars on the bottom floor, bar and a 45 seater restaurant on the second floor and bedrooms on the top floor. The Inn is refurbished but has retained the old country inn atmosphere. In the bar area there is a log fire and seating for 30 people. The rooms have been furnished in country pine furniture and terracotta colours. We are listed in the new Hidden Inns of South West Scotland and are described as having 3 star city hotel rooms in a country Inn. We are also graded as a 3 star Inn by the Scottish Tourist Board  |
