| The Old Railway Station, universally acknowledged as being one of Britain's most beautiful railway stations, was opened in 1894 as Petworth railway station. In its early years it played host to many a Royal visitor, King Edward VII, in particular, using it for his frequent visits to the Goodwood races. Passenger traffic through the station came to an end in 1955 with freight services ending 11 years later. The station house was restored in the 1980's and became a guest house in 1995. 3 Edwardian Pullman railway carriages were added in 1999 and provide delightful and unusual accommodation for 12 guests in 6, en-suite rooms. 2 further guest rooms are in the station house. The hotel is set in 2 acres, with extensive landscaped gardens. There is adequate, free parking. We cannot accomodate children under 10 years of age and no pets are allowed, except guide dogs for the blind. |
