Set overlooking Scarborough’s vast North Bay the ever-popular Clifton Hotel in Scarborough has always been a firm favourite with our guests for many years.
Offering some of the most amazing, uninterrupted sea views in Scarborough and situated only a short distance from many of the town’s attractions, This Scarborough hotel makes the perfect base when visiting the Yorkshire Coast.
With inspirational views across the North Sea and Scarborough’s magnificent castle headland, it’s easy to see how First World War poet Wilfred Owen was inspired to write some of his most famous works at the hotel.
In late 1917 Owen was posted to a reserve battalion, based at The Clifton Hotel, (then known as The Clarence Gardens Hotel). Whilst here, he was able to take time away from his clerical duties and escape to his turret bedroom where he produced “Miners,” the first of his poems to be published. |
